RVP TAKES TOO MUCH RESPONSIBILITY

Former Dutch international Clarence Seedorf has said that he thinks that star striker Robin van Persie takes up too much responsibility when it comes to the international team. Robin van Persie has had an extraordinary season with Arsenal after he has scored more than 40 goals for both club and country in all competitions, according to the Arsenal news website.

As a result, much was expected from him at the Euro 2012. However, he has so far failed to live up to the expectations. The Netherlands have gone two matches without a win in the group stages of the Euro 2012, which has put their chances of qualification to the quarter finals in jeopardy.

Only a little chance exists for the Dutch to still qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition. The 1-0 shock loss at the hands of Denmark and the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Germany in the second match has all but eliminated them from the competition.

However, in both the matches, the Dutch had excellent chances to score and win the match. Robin van Persie has been guilty of missing many chances in both the matches. AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf reckons that Robin van Persie has not been able to deliver for the Dutch at the Euro 2012 due to the fact that he has put more responsibility upon himself.

“It happened to Van Persie at the 2010 World Cup. He takes on the responsibility, maybe too much – a bit like Fernando Torres at Chelsea. He should be flying after a season like he has had with Arsenal. He’s not relaxed enough. When he plays against Arsenal it’s a different Van Persie,” Seedorf told BBC Sport. The 28-year-old striker has so far scored 28 goals for the Dutch national team. He is widely expected to leave Arsenal in the summer, with Juventus emerging as a major candidate for his signature.

SEEDORF: RVP SHOULD THINK

AC Milan midfielder and winner of the Champions League three times with three different clubs Clarence Seedorf has said that Robin van Persie should think long and hard before making a decision regarding his Arsenal career. Robin van Persie is in the crossroads of his life. The 28-year-old striker has scored 33 goals so far this campaign alone, which has put him in the same league as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. As a result, a number of clubs have shown interest in signing the Dutch striker. Manchester City have been rumoured to be one of the potential destinations, with the Manchester club are ready to offer around £ 250,000 per week for the striker.

AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has said that money should not be the priority for Robin van Persie given that he has only a few more years left at the top level of the game. Hence, he should focus on winning as many trophies as possible in the limited time he has got now. Clarence Seedorf is regarded to be one of the best Dutch players in recent times. He has been extremely lucky to lift many major trophies with big clubs like AC Milan and Real Madrid.

“A player must not leave a club because one is not in the Champions League. There must be other reasons. Van Persie gives Arsenal a lot, but he must not forget that Arsenal and Arsene Wenger in particular, have given him a lot. They have been waiting for him and given him time to show his true potential. If Van Persie leaves, it should certainly not be because they will not participate in the CL,” Seedorf told Voetbal International. Robin van Persie’s contract comes to an end in the summer of 2013, but it is thought that he would be willing to move in this summer itself.
