PUSHING THE LIMITS

The Botafogo manager Oswaldo de Oliveira has said that he feels that the former AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf pushes himself to the limits in order to match the high standards that he has set in his career.

The 36-year-old moved to the Brazilian club 18 months ago. He has managed to make 33 appearances for the club, while scoring 13 goals in the process. Seedorf is known for looking after himself and working for the team. These qualities have not diminished even at 36 years of age according to the manager Oswaldo de Oliveira. Read more »

SEEDORF BACKS NEYMAR

The former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf is of the opinion that the Santos striker Neymar should play in Europe one-day in order to be compared alongside the best in the world. Neymar is regarded as one of the best young talents in world football. He has achieved a lot with the Brazilian club Santos, which has raised his profile around the world. He has been able to command wages of around £ 1 million a month even with the Brazilian club Santos due to the presence of several sponsors. Hence, he is not with the need to move to Europe in order to earn money.

As result, he has been committed his future to Santos in the last few years. He has said that he will be willing to move to Europe only after the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf, who recently joined the Brazilian club Botafogo, has the experience of playing for several top clubs in Europe aside from AC Milan. He has said that Neymar is too young to be shouldering the responsibility of carrying a team like Brazil at the World Cup. Hence, he has urged Neymar to move to Europe in order to gain more experience of top-level football.

“He is very young, he does not have to have that responsibility in the squad. The Brazilian people need to take it. He has talent. We met two days ago (in the Brahma cabin, the Marquis de Sapucaí). I liked his energy. One day, I hope he makes an experience in Europe. There is no price to pay for that experience. Normally, he would adapt to playing there. But I’m enjoying watching him play in Brazil. I hope he has much success in life,” said Seedorf in a recent interview.

SEEDORF NOT SURE

The former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has said that he is not sure whether the stance adopted by the midfielder Kevin Prince Boetang against racism will be effective or if it is the right decision. The Ghanaian midfielder was recently subjected to racial abuse from the opposition fans while playing for AC Milan in a friendly match. Rather than complain to the referee about the issue, the midfielder decided to walk away from the pitch. He was followed by his teammates as well, which has led to several different opinions regarding the issue. Seedorf has said that walking off the pitch is not the solution towards stopping racism.

There have been a few players who have backed Boateng’s decision to walk off the pitch. The Premier league players Rio Ferdinand and Patrick Vieira have come in support of the player. Vieira has said that it was extremely brave decision by Boateng and one that should be adopted if racism is to be eradicated from the game. Seedorf, though, has said that those who are found guilty of racism should be kicked out of the stadium, which would allow the rest of the fans to enjoy the game. Seedorf has also said that walking off the pitch has happened before but it has not made any significant change.

“They should just be identified and kicked out of the stadium. Leave the 90% that were enjoying the match and finish the game. If Boateng was able to identify the whole corner, you just kick the whole corner out, That is how I think it should be handled. Walking away? Yes, you send a signal. But this has happened more than once and I don’t think it really changes all that much. We are just empowering that little group with their behaviour to make this mess,” said Seedorf.

THE RIGHT DECISION

Clarence Seedorf has said that joining the Brazilian club Botafogo was the right decision and he enjoyed a lot playing for Botafogo in his debut season. Seedorf had joined Botafogo in July this year after leaving AC Milan.

He had signed a contract of two years for the Brazilian club. He featured for Botafogo in 21 matches this season and he found the net on 9 occasions. These numbers suggest that Seedorf’s performance was pretty decent. But, despite the efforts of Seedorf, Botafogo didn’t manage to finish in top 4 in the Brazilian Serie A League due to which it didn’t qualify for Copa Libertadores. Botafogo played a total of 38 matches this season out of which it won 15 and lost 13. The remaining 10 matches finished without any result. Botafogo ended the season at no. 7 with 55 points.

When asked about his experience in his debut season for Botafogo, Seedorf said, “It was a fantastic experience. I enjoyed quite a lot playing here in Brazil.”

When asked if he thinks that his decision to leave Milan and join Botafogo was right, Seedorf said, “Yes, it was a right decision. I have no regrets about that decision. I had never played club football in Brazil before. So, it was new country and culture for me, but, I must say that it was one of the most enjoyable seasons in my career. The people here in Brazil are crazy about football and the intensity in the stadiums during matches was amazing.”

Botafogo used to be one of strongest clubs in Brazil in the past. But, in the last 20 years, the performance of the team has gone from bad to worse. When asked about that, Seedorf said, “Botafogo is a young team which is consistently improving. We have got a good mixture of experienced and youth. Our performance in this season was not that great, but, we are looking forward to the next season. Hopefully, we would qualify for the Copa Libertadores next time around.”

SEEDORF HAILS MENDES

The midfielder of Botafogo, Clarence Seedorf, has hailed Bruno Mendes’ for his brilliant performance in the Brazilian Serie A match against Vasco which was played at Olimpico Joao Havelange.

Mendes had scored a couple of goals in that match which helped Botafogo win the match by a close margin of 3-2. The 18 years old Brazilian striker scored both his goals in the last 15 minutes.

Mendes’ first goal came in the 75th minute of the match. With the help of that goal, Botafogo managed to level the scores and then, in the very last minute of the match, Mendes scored a match winning goal for his side. He was named man of the match for his glorious performance.

This was the first starting opportunity given to Mendis and he stood up to the expectations of the coach Osvaldo de Oliviera. When asked about Mendes’ brilliant performance in the match, Seedorf said, “This boy is a special talent. He has got a wonderful temperament at such a young age. He has a calm head on his shoulders.”

“The way he played in the last 20 minutes of the match was absolutely superb. He just took the match away from Vasco.”

“But, he needs to be consistent and keep performing like this. He is technically pretty sound and if he keeps working hard on his game, he will definitely become a great player.”

When asked about the overall team performance, Seedorf said, “I think we played quite well. This was a must win game for us, so, we were a bit nervous at the start. But, as the match progressed, the boys settled into their groove.”

This victory took Botafogo to no. 7 in the points table. Botafogo will play its next match against Figueirense on Thursday.

SEEDORF NETS TWICE

The former AC Milan, Real Madrid and Ajax midfielder Clarence Seedorf once again proved his worth for the Brazilian club Botafogo after scoring two goals in the match against Cruzeiro. Botafogo were coming into the match after having recently stopped the bad run of form with a 2-0 win over Coritiba. Prior to this match, Botafogo suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of São Paulo. It raised a lot of questions regarding the future of the Dutch midfielder, who at 36 years of age, was not getting any younger. However, he has been a source of inspiration for the team in the last three matches, which have all finished as victories for Botafogo.

Seedorf scored two goals in the match against Cruzeiro to give his team the third consecutive victory. Cruzeiro were coming into the match after having recently been given a six match ban for the crowd. The fans of the club were extremely violent in the match against Atletico Mineiro. Tinga gave Cruzeiro the lead in the match after just 20 min. However, it did not take long for Botafogo to get back into the match after they scored two goals through the former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

The 36-year-old managed to score two goals within 2 min to give Botafogo the lead going into the half-time interval. He was also extremely influential in helping Botafogo score the third goal after he set up the pass that allowed Jadson to score. The 3-1 comfortable victory now means that the team are currently in the fifth position in the table with 37 points on the board. The leaders of the table, Fluminense have 53 points. Hence, the club can realistically look at the possibility of finishing in the third position, which is occupied by Gremio, this season.

SEEDORF PLAYS FOR BOTAFOGO

The former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf scored his first goal for the Brazilian club Botafogo in the match against Goiana. The wonderful freekick helped the Botafogo club to get all three points from the match. Clarence Seedorf suffered a defeat in his first match as the Botafogo player.

However, this victory will go a long way into answering the questions regarding the ability of the 36-year-old midfielder to cope with the demands of Brazilian football. The former AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder recently made his move to the Brazilian league with Botafogo.

It was expected that he was moving for one final payday because he is on a huge contract with the Brazilian club. However, he demonstrated that he was more than worthy of the contract by scoring a wonderful 30 yard freekick that helped the club comeback from behind to get all three points. Clarence Seedorf was making his fourth appearance for the club and it looked like they were heading for another defeat, but the irresistible quality of the player proved the difference between the two clubs, as it helped them get renewed confidence to come back from going a goal down.

“It was nice to see the fans today [in Goiana], but I feel at home in Brazil. The reaction to my first goal has been great. I am happier with the victory than the goal. Dhe team was balanced. It was difficult, but we responded well. We pressed and quietened them down in the second half. We deserved the three points. We have more confidence now,” said the Dutch international after the match. As result of this victory, Botafogo have moved into the sixth position of the table after having played 14 matches so far. They are only a few points away from sealing the Copa Libertadores qualification spot.

SEEDORF MAKES HISTORY

The Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf make his debut for the Brazilian club Botafogo, but could not prevent the team from losing his debut match 1-0. Botafogo were taking on Gremio at home, and the club were extremely excited at the prospect of being able to field a player of the quality of Clarence Seedorf. The Dutchman, who has won the Champions League title with three different clubs, is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. The 36-year-old has played for the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Inter Milan over the years. He recently moved to Brazilian club Botafogo in search of a new challenge.

It is thought that the arrival of Clarence Seedorf is expected to boost the revenues of the team in an incredible way. It is one of the reasons for the club to offer the £ 50,000 per week wages for the Dutch midfielder. However, he could not prevent the team from losing in his debut match for the club. Speaking after the match, the 36-year-old Dutchman said that he was extremely surprised by the incredible atmosphere within the stadium. Despite the loss, he has said that he hopes to help Botafogo to better things in the future.

“”The atmosphere was amazing, I hope every game is like that,” said Clarence Seedorf after the match. “Seedorf has only been with us for two weeks. He’s at the start of the season and we’re in the middle,” said the manager of the club Oswaldo de Oliveira. Oswaldo de Oliveira will have to work extremely hard in the coming weeks in order to help the team climb up the table there are currently in the eighth position. The club has 17 points from the 11 matches they have played so far in the league.

RVP TAKES TOO MUCH RESPONSIBILITY

Former Dutch international Clarence Seedorf has said that he thinks that star striker Robin van Persie takes up too much responsibility when it comes to the international team. Robin van Persie has had an extraordinary season with Arsenal after he has scored more than 40 goals for both club and country in all competitions, according to the Arsenal news website.

As a result, much was expected from him at the Euro 2012. However, he has so far failed to live up to the expectations. The Netherlands have gone two matches without a win in the group stages of the Euro 2012, which has put their chances of qualification to the quarter finals in jeopardy.

Only a little chance exists for the Dutch to still qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition. The 1-0 shock loss at the hands of Denmark and the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Germany in the second match has all but eliminated them from the competition.

However, in both the matches, the Dutch had excellent chances to score and win the match. Robin van Persie has been guilty of missing many chances in both the matches. AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf reckons that Robin van Persie has not been able to deliver for the Dutch at the Euro 2012 due to the fact that he has put more responsibility upon himself.

“It happened to Van Persie at the 2010 World Cup. He takes on the responsibility, maybe too much – a bit like Fernando Torres at Chelsea. He should be flying after a season like he has had with Arsenal. He’s not relaxed enough. When he plays against Arsenal it’s a different Van Persie,” Seedorf told BBC Sport. The 28-year-old striker has so far scored 28 goals for the Dutch national team. He is widely expected to leave Arsenal in the summer, with Juventus emerging as a major candidate for his signature.

CONTRACT WAITS UNTIL JUNE

AC Milan director Umberto Gandini has once again confirmed that the club will not be opening contract talks with 36-year-old midfielder Clarence Seedorf until the end of the season. The Dutchman is out of contract at the end of the season and it is widely expected that he will sign for an MLS club in the summer. Despite being 36 years old, Clarence Seedorf has been a major influence on the AC Milan first-team, which has prompted many to suggest that Milan should retain him at least for another season. Milan have developed the reputation for having a number of older players in the squad.

They tried to change it in the summer by letting Andrea Pirlo leave the club after 10 years of service. However, it has proven to be a major disastrous decision after the 32-year-old midfielder has been in inspired form for Juventus this season. He has been the main criteria for Juventus winning the title this season, while he has also helped the club to an undefeated season in the league. Hence, it is thought that Milan will be discussing terms with Seedorf at the end of the season so as to keep the 36-year-old for one more season. Gandini confirmed recently that such talks will not take place during the season.

“He is a great player and a wonderful person but we have not discussed the renewal of his contract with him. Seedorf’s contract ends in July, as do the contracts of nine other players. And we have not been talking to any of them. We will only do this from May 14 onwards. Only then will we know if Seedorf will still be at Milan, or if he will be released to join another team,” the Rossoneri official told in an interview given to Lancenet.
