Seedorf Goal Disallowed

AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri has said that Clarence Seedorf’s goal should have been allowed rather than being disallowed for offside. AC Milan could manage only a 0-0 draw with Fiorentina during the weekend, and the result leaves them one point behind leaders Juventus, although Juventus have a game in hand. Had Clarence Seedorf’s been allowed, it would have given AC Milan the perfect opportunity to go ahead of Juventus, and also piled on the pressure on Juventus, who have been given a free ride since the start of the season.

Clarence Seedorf scored what looked to be a great goal early in the first half of their match against Fiorentina, but it was disallowed for offside by the referee. Replays, however, suggested that the referee had made the wrong decision with regard to the offside. It may have been forgotten had AC Milan scored a goal later in the match but without it AC Milan had to contend themselves with just one point instead of three. It seems to have been a massive disappointment for Massimiliano Allegri, whose side were inconsistent earlier in the campaign, but have improved significantly since then.

Speaking after the match, Massimiliano Allegri said, “We played well, and deserved more from this match. We even scored a perfectly good goal, only for the Referee to rule it out. It’s disappointing but it happens – they are only human. We had chances in the second half, and we were rarely threatened by the Viola whilst creating two fantastic chances which only great saves from Boruc could keep out.”

Massimiliano Allegri will have to quickly forget the memories of this draw, as they are set to face European Champions Barcelona in the Champions League group stages. Milan had drawn the reverse fixture due to a goal from Alexandre Pato, who returns from injury for this match.
