THE RIGHT DECISION

Clarence Seedorf has said that joining the Brazilian club Botafogo was the right decision and he enjoyed a lot playing for Botafogo in his debut season. Seedorf had joined Botafogo in July this year after leaving AC Milan.

He had signed a contract of two years for the Brazilian club. He featured for Botafogo in 21 matches this season and he found the net on 9 occasions. These numbers suggest that Seedorf’s performance was pretty decent. But, despite the efforts of Seedorf, Botafogo didn’t manage to finish in top 4 in the Brazilian Serie A League due to which it didn’t qualify for Copa Libertadores. Botafogo played a total of 38 matches this season out of which it won 15 and lost 13. The remaining 10 matches finished without any result. Botafogo ended the season at no. 7 with 55 points.

When asked about his experience in his debut season for Botafogo, Seedorf said, “It was a fantastic experience. I enjoyed quite a lot playing here in Brazil.”

When asked if he thinks that his decision to leave Milan and join Botafogo was right, Seedorf said, “Yes, it was a right decision. I have no regrets about that decision. I had never played club football in Brazil before. So, it was new country and culture for me, but, I must say that it was one of the most enjoyable seasons in my career. The people here in Brazil are crazy about football and the intensity in the stadiums during matches was amazing.”

Botafogo used to be one of strongest clubs in Brazil in the past. But, in the last 20 years, the performance of the team has gone from bad to worse. When asked about that, Seedorf said, “Botafogo is a young team which is consistently improving. We have got a good mixture of experienced and youth. Our performance in this season was not that great, but, we are looking forward to the next season. Hopefully, we would qualify for the Copa Libertadores next time around.”
