EARLY PROMISE DISAPPEARS
The early promise that seemed to appear after the appointment of Clarence Seedorf has managed in recent weeks after the club has suffered back-to-back defeats in important competitions. After the league defeats at the hands of Juventus and Udinese, Milan were hoping to at least get into the quarter-finals of the Champions League since it would have been rewarding financially. The club are anyway about to lose their record of having appeared in any form of European football for more than a decade. They will be without even Europa league football next season, but an appearance in the quarter-final of the Champions League this season will be enough to sustain the club going forward.
However, they have failed to do so after suffering a 5-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid. The Italians came into the match trailing 1-0 from the first leg, but they conceded a goal in the second minute to destroy Seedorf’s plans. They went on to lose 4-1 with only Kaka scoring the consolation goal for Milan. After this disappointment, progress will return to the league, as Milan will be seeking a strong into the season. They will be up against an inform Parma team and this will be a very difficult encounter according to Seedorf.
“It’ll be a tough match tomorrow as we’ll be up against a team in form. We’ll give everything to get into Europe, working game by game and we have 11 matches to get to that objective. The team is focused and the players are ready to give 100%. If we had won the home match against Juventus of the Champions League match against Atletico, something would have changed, especially for the players who are in a delicate situation. We’ll keep working with enthusiasm to get out of this situation,” said Seedorf.
