SEEDORF TAKES OVER

Former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has confirmed his retirement from playing football and he will be announced as the new manager of Milan. The Italian club recently sacked their manager Massimiliano Allegri after a run of poor results left them fighting to even get into the top half of the table. After the sacking of Allegri, the club was expected to announce a new manager within the next few weeks. However, the rumours about a possible return of Seedorf started in motion within a few days. Seedorf is one of the finest midfielders to have represented Milan in their long history.

He is a Champions league winner with three different teams, a record that is boosted by no other player. The Dutchman was playing with Brazilian outfit Botafogo after leaving Milan a few years ago. He has been a model professional at the Brazilian outfit. His agent recently revealed that there was a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave the Brazilian club under certain circumstances. It is believed that the clause has been activated because Milan have been able to come to terms with Seedorf very quickly.

The 37-year-old has announced that he will become the next Milan manager after ending his playing career after 22 years.

“I am here to announce that I will retire from playing after 22 years. It has been a difficult decision, but I am satisfied with what I have achieved in my career. Here at Botafogo I am happy because I leave a team which has qualified for the (Copa) Libertadores. I leave an improved club, especially in terms of their mentality and team spirit. Yes, I will be the coach at Milan,” said Seedorf. Allegri lost his job after the team that defeated 4-3 by Sassuolo. This results left them 30 points behind Juventus.

AC RETURN?

Massimiliano Allegri keeps on struggling in this season of Serie A having only managed to win 3 matches out of the 13 played so far. These results put the future of Allegri with Ac.Milan in danger unless they can pull out some positive results in the next encounter.

Adriano Galliani already stated that despite the outcome that Allegri gets his position is secured but can those words hold true?

Ever since leaving Ac.Milan Claerence Seedorf was a possible candidate of being a coach of the Italian team and according to rumors that are circulating in Brazil he has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Rossoneri.

Ac.Milan went through a massive change in squad some time ago that saw their most experienced players finding their way out of the Italian team including not only Seedorf but Inzaghi as he now coaches the youth squad.

Ever since exiting the main team both Inzaghi and Seedorf expressed their desire on maintaining a connection with the club and becoming a coach. This might just be the time when it happens if Allegri can’t pick up good results in the next few weeks or if he fails to qualify in the next stages of the Champions League.

If this is the truth then AC Milan will have to pay up to €1 million to release Seedorf from his Botafogo contract which doesn’t end till June next year, reports Globesporte.com.

Last week, Seedorf was reported saying he would like to take over the reins at Milan. His relationship with the Berlusconi family, who own the club, is seen to be strong.

Only time will tell if this actually goes through but these next matches of Ac.Milan under the reign of Allegri will decide his future with the club and the possibility of Seedorf stepping into the club once more.

PATIENCE

Former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf said that Real Madrid should have patience with manager Carlo Ancelotti man who has endured a difficult start to the life at the Spanish capital. Ancelotti was appointed as the replacement for José Mourinho and he left his job at Paris St Germain in order to take up this job. The arrival of players like Gareth Bale has increased the pressure on Ancelotti even before he began. The start of the season has not been great because Madrid are already five points behind Barcelona in the table.

Seedorf, who played under Ancelotti for several years at Milan, has said that the club should have a lot of faith in the Italian because he is one of the best managers in the world. Ancelotti was one league titles and Champions League titles during his illustrious career both as a player and as a manager. He is one of the very few to hold this record. Seedorf has said that Ancelotti always makes his team played well and win matches, but the transition period from the days of José Mourinho will take some time.

Seedorf has recalled that he worked with Ancelotti for eight years at Milan and he knows him better than most at Madrid.

“Ancelotti always knows what he is doing, give him time. He is a winner and we must be patient so that he can build. They have played some good games, which must give him confidence. He has always managed to have his teams play well and in the end also win. The club have decided to work with him to push the team up a level in Europe and win La Liga, and for that we must give him time,” said the Dutch midfielder, who is currently at Brazilian club Botafogo.

STUNNING SUCCESS

Former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has been a stunning success in Brazil after moving to the Brazilian league only recently with Botafogo. He has been an influential figure for the club in every way including helping the youth players develop their game. He has also helped the club reach the top of the table with a stunning goal against current champions Fluminense. Botafogo were taking on Fluminense in a crunch encounter and the current champions are certainly the favourites to take all three points. However, they were stunned by an excellent performance from the 37-year-old.

Seedorf has been consistently linked with a return to AC Milan as a manager over the last few weeks. However, it looks like he will be completing the season with Botafogo before taking a decision on his future. Seedorf has played for the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Ajax. He is the only player to have lifted a Champions League trophy with three different clubs. Coritiba were the table leaders going into the match, but they were held to a 2-2 draw with Flamengo. As a result, they have fallen out of the top of the table.

Botafogo now occupy this position after having taken for the victories from the opening six matches of the season. It would be a tremendous achievement for Botafogo to win the league because they are not amongst the traditional big clubs like Santos and São Paulo. Even though Fluminense were the league champions only last season, they were totally outplayed by Botafogo as they dominated possession. Botafogo also created a lot of opportunities as well, but it was the solitary goal from Seedorf that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Clarence Seedorf is already proving to be an influential signing for the club.

AC WILL DO WELL

Former AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Ajax midfielder Clarence Seedorf has said that he expects AC Milan to do extremely well in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, he has also said that it is going to be extremely difficult for their rivals Inter Milan since they are in a transition period. The former Dutch international is currently playing for the Brazilian club Botafogo. The two Milan clubs have been experiencing mixed fortunes over the year. Inter Milan started the season extremely well and they were in contention for a Champions League spot only a few months ago.

AC Milan, meanwhile, started the season extremely poorly and they were looking in danger of finishing in the bottom half of the table. However, the January transfer window brought about a seachange in the fortunes of the clubs. Milan have been on an extremely good run of form, which has propelled them to the third position in the league. One of the main reasons behind it has been the arrival of former Inter Milan and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli. Seedorf expects the Italian to be a massive influence for Milan in the coming seasons.

He has also said that the sale of several influential players has reduced to the strength in depth of Inter Milan.

“I believe that the arrival of Balotelli has been very important for Milan. He has shown great enthusiasm. Mario is doing very well, but I think he can still improve. I believe Milan are ready to do well in Italy and in Europe. Inter meanwhile, let many big players leave, and the team is suffering because of this. I think this is a year of transition,” said Seedorf. The 37-year-old has been a major influence in the Botafogo since his arrival just over a year ago. He almost helped them win the title last season.

PUSHING THE LIMITS

The Botafogo manager Oswaldo de Oliveira has said that he feels that the former AC Milan, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf pushes himself to the limits in order to match the high standards that he has set in his career.

The 36-year-old moved to the Brazilian club 18 months ago. He has managed to make 33 appearances for the club, while scoring 13 goals in the process. Seedorf is known for looking after himself and working for the team. These qualities have not diminished even at 36 years of age according to the manager Oswaldo de Oliveira. Read more »

SEEDORF BACKS NEYMAR

The former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf is of the opinion that the Santos striker Neymar should play in Europe one-day in order to be compared alongside the best in the world. Neymar is regarded as one of the best young talents in world football. He has achieved a lot with the Brazilian club Santos, which has raised his profile around the world. He has been able to command wages of around £ 1 million a month even with the Brazilian club Santos due to the presence of several sponsors. Hence, he is not with the need to move to Europe in order to earn money.

As result, he has been committed his future to Santos in the last few years. He has said that he will be willing to move to Europe only after the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf, who recently joined the Brazilian club Botafogo, has the experience of playing for several top clubs in Europe aside from AC Milan. He has said that Neymar is too young to be shouldering the responsibility of carrying a team like Brazil at the World Cup. Hence, he has urged Neymar to move to Europe in order to gain more experience of top-level football.

“He is very young, he does not have to have that responsibility in the squad. The Brazilian people need to take it. He has talent. We met two days ago (in the Brahma cabin, the Marquis de Sapucaí). I liked his energy. One day, I hope he makes an experience in Europe. There is no price to pay for that experience. Normally, he would adapt to playing there. But I’m enjoying watching him play in Brazil. I hope he has much success in life,” said Seedorf in a recent interview.

SEEDORF NOT SURE

The former AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has said that he is not sure whether the stance adopted by the midfielder Kevin Prince Boetang against racism will be effective or if it is the right decision. The Ghanaian midfielder was recently subjected to racial abuse from the opposition fans while playing for AC Milan in a friendly match. Rather than complain to the referee about the issue, the midfielder decided to walk away from the pitch. He was followed by his teammates as well, which has led to several different opinions regarding the issue. Seedorf has said that walking off the pitch is not the solution towards stopping racism.

There have been a few players who have backed Boateng’s decision to walk off the pitch. The Premier league players Rio Ferdinand and Patrick Vieira have come in support of the player. Vieira has said that it was extremely brave decision by Boateng and one that should be adopted if racism is to be eradicated from the game. Seedorf, though, has said that those who are found guilty of racism should be kicked out of the stadium, which would allow the rest of the fans to enjoy the game. Seedorf has also said that walking off the pitch has happened before but it has not made any significant change.

“They should just be identified and kicked out of the stadium. Leave the 90% that were enjoying the match and finish the game. If Boateng was able to identify the whole corner, you just kick the whole corner out, That is how I think it should be handled. Walking away? Yes, you send a signal. But this has happened more than once and I don’t think it really changes all that much. We are just empowering that little group with their behaviour to make this mess,” said Seedorf.

THE RIGHT DECISION

Clarence Seedorf has said that joining the Brazilian club Botafogo was the right decision and he enjoyed a lot playing for Botafogo in his debut season. Seedorf had joined Botafogo in July this year after leaving AC Milan.

He had signed a contract of two years for the Brazilian club. He featured for Botafogo in 21 matches this season and he found the net on 9 occasions. These numbers suggest that Seedorf’s performance was pretty decent. But, despite the efforts of Seedorf, Botafogo didn’t manage to finish in top 4 in the Brazilian Serie A League due to which it didn’t qualify for Copa Libertadores. Botafogo played a total of 38 matches this season out of which it won 15 and lost 13. The remaining 10 matches finished without any result. Botafogo ended the season at no. 7 with 55 points.

When asked about his experience in his debut season for Botafogo, Seedorf said, “It was a fantastic experience. I enjoyed quite a lot playing here in Brazil.”

When asked if he thinks that his decision to leave Milan and join Botafogo was right, Seedorf said, “Yes, it was a right decision. I have no regrets about that decision. I had never played club football in Brazil before. So, it was new country and culture for me, but, I must say that it was one of the most enjoyable seasons in my career. The people here in Brazil are crazy about football and the intensity in the stadiums during matches was amazing.”

Botafogo used to be one of strongest clubs in Brazil in the past. But, in the last 20 years, the performance of the team has gone from bad to worse. When asked about that, Seedorf said, “Botafogo is a young team which is consistently improving. We have got a good mixture of experienced and youth. Our performance in this season was not that great, but, we are looking forward to the next season. Hopefully, we would qualify for the Copa Libertadores next time around.”

SEEDORF HAILS MENDES

The midfielder of Botafogo, Clarence Seedorf, has hailed Bruno Mendes’ for his brilliant performance in the Brazilian Serie A match against Vasco which was played at Olimpico Joao Havelange.

Mendes had scored a couple of goals in that match which helped Botafogo win the match by a close margin of 3-2. The 18 years old Brazilian striker scored both his goals in the last 15 minutes.

Mendes’ first goal came in the 75th minute of the match. With the help of that goal, Botafogo managed to level the scores and then, in the very last minute of the match, Mendes scored a match winning goal for his side. He was named man of the match for his glorious performance.

This was the first starting opportunity given to Mendis and he stood up to the expectations of the coach Osvaldo de Oliviera. When asked about Mendes’ brilliant performance in the match, Seedorf said, “This boy is a special talent. He has got a wonderful temperament at such a young age. He has a calm head on his shoulders.”

“The way he played in the last 20 minutes of the match was absolutely superb. He just took the match away from Vasco.”

“But, he needs to be consistent and keep performing like this. He is technically pretty sound and if he keeps working hard on his game, he will definitely become a great player.”

When asked about the overall team performance, Seedorf said, “I think we played quite well. This was a must win game for us, so, we were a bit nervous at the start. But, as the match progressed, the boys settled into their groove.”

This victory took Botafogo to no. 7 in the points table. Botafogo will play its next match against Figueirense on Thursday.
